The Steinberg Family Charitable Trust

The Steinberg Family Charitable Trust is a registered charity with the Charity Commission (Charity Number 1045231).

The Trust was established through an initial loan from the late Lord Steinberg and has since been supported by additional donations and legacies from the Steinberg family. Its work reflects the strong philanthropic values of its founders, Lord Steinberg, who passed away in 2009, and his wife, Lady Beryl Steinberg, who passed away in 2022.

The Trust is a grant-making charity. It does not fundraise and is committed to creating a lasting legacy through the careful management of its resources and the thoughtful distribution of its funds.

The Steinberg family is actively involved in the Trust. Family members hold two trustee positions:

  • Lynne Bloch, the Founder’s daughter

  • Jonathan Steinberg, the Founder’s son

The Trust’s charitable objects allow the Trustees broad discretion to use the Trust’s income to make donations for charitable purposes.

While the Trust’s founding objects are wide, its main focus is to support Jewish charities, particularly those involved in education and social services. Priority is given to charities based in North West England or working within the Jewish community either in the North West or in Israel.

Although most grants are made to Jewish charities and within the North West of the UK, the Trust does also support non-Jewish organisations and makes grants outside the North West where appropriate.
